The Clingmans Dome area is one of the most photographed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Viewing distance is remarkable! On average, you should be able to see at least twenty miles away. But if you visit on an exceedingly clear day, you can look down upon seven states stretching over 100 miles from the tower! There is possibilities of snowfall anytime between May and September. Because of weather conditions, the road leading to this area is normally closed between December 1-March 31. We saw the Great Smoky Mountains at their best! The colors are brilliant in the fall; however it’s beautiful year around. Why are there so many dead trees inside clingmans dome?Because it’s so cool, and wet in Clingmans Dome, bugs and insects
has caused disease to the delicate spruce-fir forest. You’re going to see lots of dead trunks and
dying trees during your visit here.
However, lots of new trees are
springing up to replace the dying ones. When I visited with my friend Cindy, we had a wonderful time! We didn’t see any wild animals, but the black bear visits quite frequently here! "Watch your back, Cindy!" The famous Appalachian Trail comes through Clingman's Dome! The trail Cindy is standing on (below) is a just one small section. Clingman's Dome stands at the halfway point between
Tennessee and North Carolina. However, according to Google Maps it's actual location is in Bryson City, N.C. One of the best ways to enjoy your visit is to bring a picnic lunch and spend the whole day. However, there are lots of ways to enjoy Clingmans Dome. Whatever you decide, you can be sure it's a day in the mountains you'll treasure forever - GUARANTEED! The information center is an excellent resource for finding everything you want to know about Clingman's Dome and the Great Smoky Mountains.
